When Walking Hurts
11:49 AM
Still, every morning I struggle with the backpack. Usually it’s because I’ve forgotten something. Very frustrating, because then the bag has to be opened again. After saying goodbye to the hotel owner and being given a small Norwegian flag, I continued walking along the asphalt. That was tough. I had pain in the sole of my foot and found it hard to roll my foot properly. When you then see the long road ahead, it doesn’t make you happy.

After 30 km it became unbearable and I started hitchhiking. The second car stopped right away. Her name was Solfrid. Last year she had also picked up someone who was walking to Spain. As if by coincidence—that’s someone I’m friends with! That’s Daniel! I immediately took a photo and sent it to Daniel.

Oh my goodness!!!!! This is so incredible! Is that Solfrid? That is such a great coincidence!

She dropped me off at a motel, where I managed—hobbling—to arrange a room.

Tomorrow I’ll take a look at what I’m going to do next. It’s a red day here (Ascension Day), so everyone has the day off.

Total: 139.8 – 53.1 km, of which 25 km hitchhiked.
The hostel is good and quiet. I think there’s nobody else here. The room has a view of the parking lot where buses stop full of tourists. En masse they head to the toilets and the souvenir shop. They buy everything and get back on the bus. It all looks so terribly organized. Whether the internet here is better than at the previous place remains to be seen—it fluctuates wildly.
