Through Cold Wind to Timberman Lodge
7:27 AM
Two solid climbs lie ahead, and the weather is cold and damp. The wind is fierce, stripping away any warmth I manage to build up.

7:39 AM
Time for a short break. I’m only halfway up the first climb, but I need to recover a bit.

10:13 AM
By mid-morning I keep pushing on, teeth chattering, knowing that Timberman Lodge is somewhere above me. Hikers coming down smile and say, “Enjoy your breakfast.”

11:34 AM
Finally—on top of the second peak—I step into the ski resort. As soon as I open the door, a waiter looks at me and asks if I’m okay 🥴.
“Sit down,” he says. “Breakfast is over, but if you wait 20 minutes, the lunch buffet opens.”
I’m given a soda, a hot cup of tea, and more water. Food tastes incredible 🤤. I pile up two enormous plates and eat until I’m completely full—despite the fact that I still have to descend the mountain.

12:37 PM
I wobble downhill on the other side, telling every hiker I pass that the lunch is absolutely sublime. They immediately sprint uphill. It shows how badly everyone craves food—and a shower.
Down by the road, I plan to resupply and get clean in town. But no car stops to give me a ride. Now what? I’m out of food and maybe have enough left for one more day. This is becoming a real problem 🫨.
It’s incredibly frustrating when you have a clear plan in your head and it falls apart because you depend on others.
I calculate that there’s a small shop along the route, 70 km ahead. We take the risk and decide to keep walking—no shower.

5:20 PM
I have to stop. My heels hurt and don’t roll properly anymore. At a parking lot, there’s a note from Trail Angels: it’s Tuesday 🥳… but not the 6th 🥺.
I walk back a bit, pitch my tent, and crawl into my sleeping bag.
We’re fasting tonight.
Total:
32.94 km in 10:15 hours
1,323 m up
1,170 m down
