Switching Trails

1:06 PM

After having had a few days of rest, the plan has been adjusted. The snow and high rivers make the E1 complex—especially because you’re on your own and every decision has to be carefully considered. There have been moments when it really wasn’t safe, but turning back or detouring would have taken too much time due to resupply constraints.

Now that I’m back in Abisko, I’ll follow the Kungsleden Trail (King’s Trail) starting tomorrow. It’s busy and runs almost parallel to the E1. The E1 mainly runs through Norway, while the Kungsleden Trail is in Sweden. Because this is a busy and very well-known trail, there are many facilities and bridges. This makes heading south a bit easier.

We’re ready. Ready for the next 500 km!
