Slow Steps in the Heat
8:08 AM
Here we go — heading up Woody Pass. I slept, but not in one stretch. It’s stiflingly warm and the mosquitoes are relentless. So I push higher, aiming for the pass.

Alright, the first pass is done. Two more to go.
9:20 AM
I run into Michelle — she’s the one who drove me to Harts Pass. She’s a day behind me. Well, I’ll see you again later then 🤣. I’m tired and taking it slow.

13:33 PM
Back at Holman Pass. Someone hung bear bells here — apparently they decided they were too heavy.
I run into two trail maintenance workers. They’ve completely fixed up the trail all the way to Harts Pass. Thank you so much for your service.
It’s extremely hot today and I try to take it easy. The annoying thing is that if you walk very slowly, you get eaten alive by mosquitoes. I look like I’ve got chickenpox. If anything deserves to be abolished, it’s these cursed pests.

15:29 PM
That’s enough for today.
I meet someone from Australia who tells me there’s a fire closure between Harts Pass and Rainy Pass. That’s frustrating — now I’ll have to hitchhike around it. I’ll get there tomorrow, so I need to figure out how to bypass it.
