Red, Purple, and Still Going
8:52 AM
Let’s actually head up that mountain after all—otherwise we’ll never really get moving.

9:14 AM
Muh 😮💨 this is pretty tough. We’re using a new app to navigate, which also shows the elevation profile in colors:
Gray = flat
Orange = gentle incline
Yellow = okay, as long as this doesn’t last too long
Red = put in some effort 😬
Purple = muh… is this really necessary? 😳🥵
We start right away with red, but since we’re fairly well-rested, it’s actually going pretty well.

9:20 AM

11:06 AM
Down in the village we look for a place to grab something to eat, but no luck—everything only opens at 12:00. So we decide to tackle the second mountain as well; that way we’ll have the hardest part of the day behind us.

11:38 AM

12:25 PM

12:57 PM
Plenty of lemons 😂

1:14 PM
We settle into a tiny little bar for a warm lunch. That way we can prepare ourselves for the final small hill of just 4 km—but you still have to get over it.

2:18 PM
🤔 Didn’t quite realize that we first have to descend to the water, only to climb back up again on the other side. It’s getting warm and the sun is blazing.
There are lots of Germans around—with big hiking boots (type C), trekking poles, and solid, practical clothing. Ah well, es ist so schön!

2:25 PM

2:29 PM
Nice little path along the water 😏, but unfortunately… it’s a dead end and we have to turn back. We really do have to go up, not go hunting for clever shortcuts 😩

2:49 PM

2:59 PM
A bridge? Yeah, no chance. Let’s walk upstream instead and see if we can cross the little river further up.

3:41 PM

3:59 PM
The village where our hotel is finally comes into view. Just one last solid descent, and then we can enjoy the narrow streets.

4:08 PM
Camino de Santiago 🤔

4:10 PM

4:24 PM
After the cactus house, we finally arrive at our hotel. Hand-wash some clothes, jump in the shower ourselves, and catch our breath.

7:15 PM
In the evening, we still wander along the beach for a bit. Good night—it was a beautiful, tough day, but we know we can do this.
