No Filter, No Choice

1:40 PM

Breakfast at 8:00 AM, then straight to the shop to look for a new water filter. Unfortunately—no luck. Nobody had anything. Not even a bottle that would fit it. There’s nothing else to do but continue the journey.

Just after starting, I already stick out my thumb at a passing car—I have to go through a 7 km long tunnel after all. But he drives on. What’s he doing now? He turns around and I get a ride to the other side of the tunnel. This man’s name was Knut. He had walked the Camino in 1994. In 1999 the tunnel was opened by the king. He dropped me off and wished me good luck.

Off I went, and finally I spotted the second T marker. But after a few kilometers there were snowfields and the markings disappeared again. A fast-flowing river ran alongside me, with snow overhanging it. I didn’t dare continue. It became too steep and the path was gone. I walked all the way back to cross via the road instead. This detour didn’t really work and I kept drifting farther away from the trail. It turns into walking right-handed instead of following the official route.

Total: 70.2 – 27.2 km. 6:00 PM. I need a place to sleep—but where? Of course I don’t have maps of this area with me. At some point I see a few cabins. I walk over, but everything is locked. Everything except the toilet. Inside the toilet I start orienting myself, and according to the internet there should be a hut 4 km further on. 7:00 PM. The huts that were there were all locked as well. There was nothing else to do but pitch the tent and spend the night here.

It’s cold and raining. Luckily I still have three slices of pizza, so at least I don’t have to cook.
