Logistics Day

5:41 PM

To enter the U.S. on a visa, you’re required to have a contact person. Luckily, through Aimee I had a contact person where I could also have gear shipped. That worked out really well, because it allowed me to send my new shoes, insoles, backpack, sun hoodie, and the items I didn’t need at the start ahead of time and pick them up later.

Oh—and the UrSack, the white bear bag for food, I swapped for a bear canister: a horribly heavy barrel that’s mandatory in Yosemite.

So, I pick up my gear and prepare a box to send back to the Netherlands. At that point I hear that the first Monday of September is Labor Day. This is a holiday celebrating the end of summer, during which everything is closed. Basically, that means two Sundays in a row. This means I’ll be staying in Ashland for two extra days, which actually suits me just fine. It gives me time to recover from the past 1,400 kilometers of walking and to get everything back in order.
