Journey Paused

10:02 AM

Sunday the 9th, morning. Mmm, a waterfall makes quite a lot of noise too. Wouldn’t recommend sleeping right next to one. All in all, I did sleep. The hammock is definitely many times more comfortable than those sagging mattresses.

This is a strange spot here. The Kungsleden trail continues for another 26 km, which means you have to take a shuttle bus that only runs twice a day. Hikers come puffing down the mountain trying to catch the bus. I’m very glad I pushed through yesterday. I was told I was the fastest. The record was three nights and half a day. I did it in two nights / three days. In short: 115 km in three days.

I’ve decided to head down to the nearest large city, Gällivare. From there, a night train runs to Stockholm, where I can catch a flight home.

Why? Because I want to spend this summer on vacation with my family. The E1 Trail, Kungsleden, or Nordkalottleden will still be there, and I can always pick them up again later.

3:57 PM

Everything is running smoothly. At 11:00 AM I took the bus to Gällivare, arriving at 2:30 PM. On the bus I suddenly had internet and could sort out flights and trains.

At 3:20 PM I took the intercity train to Boden C, where at 6:25 PM I’ll catch the night train to Stockholm. It’s been quite a while since I last slept on a night train.

I’ll arrive in Stockholm at 6:35 AM. There were no flights available, so I’ll fly on Tuesday and will be back in Amsterdam at 8:30 PM.
