Between Two Rivers
12:11 PM
It was cold last night, eight degrees, and I’m in the clouds. I slowly pack everything up, and since the campsite has a picnic table, that works out nicely. Sitting still, however, isn’t much fun; the wind blows and the clouds are pressed against the mountain, creating a veil of mist.
The trail flows well, but there’s a light drizzle, making it hard to sit comfortably for a moment. The long views are gone too, until the clouds finally break and I catch a glimpse of Pulpit Rock.

And again, trail magic: a basket of fruit, including bananas, mandarins, grapes, strawberries, and melon. After the rain, this really feels like sunshine 🌞.

My fitness has declined and I feel tired. You drag yourself up the next mountain, and it’s not easy. I can still put things into perspective with the comedy of Herman Finkers, but after two hours of listening I really need to start looking for a campsite.

Not again, right? Just as I’m completely on the verge of collapse, there’s another river. The other hikers on the opposite bank don’t know what to do either. I spot two tree trunks and take the gamble while they watch. If it goes wrong, they can keep looking for a better crossing. Fortunately it works out, and I keep my balance reasonably well.
That gives them the courage to take the risk too. The group was very uncertain, but I feel blessed and move on. I just want to lie down and do nothing else.

A very tight spot between two rivers, but it’ll have to do, because I’m not going any farther.
