A Long Day Northbound

12:38 PM

The hotel was good, quiet. I didn’t feel any urge to wander around, so I just stayed in the room. I could remain in the hotel for a long time since the next flight didn’t leave until 12:45 PM.

The plane was half full, although it could also be that business class was simply empty. Had less trouble with my ears this time. The seat wasn’t exactly comfortable and I had to shift around a lot to avoid back pain.

Tromsø is a small airport—and that with 4 hours of waiting until the next flight. I’m bored already.

The trees here are still bare and the hills are covered with snow.

Pffff, 4.5 hours of waiting in a terminal where there is literally nothing to do. Well, after a certain amount of time you become more nonchalant and start feeling just like in the movie The Terminal. Half slouched, sitting/lying there, just waiting it out.

And then suddenly it’s time. Wow, that’s a small plane—but once seated, the chair was many times better than those on Boeing planes. And the legroom… Boeing could learn something from that.

Quite noisy though, because once again I was clever enough to sit next to the engine. Still, the clouds were high, so I could take a few nice photos.

At Hammerfest Airport there was a small building. I followed the crowd, which wasn’t very smart. So I had to go through customs again and hand in the bottles I had bought.

There was one little shop that was about to close. Quickly bought some things, because I had to wait here for 3 hours for the next small plane.

That was a packed little plane. It was on a through route and already full of people. I ended up sitting next to a man who didn’t quite have everything together. He definitely had a lot of itching. Luckily the flight only lasted 25 minutes. Too bad I didn’t have a window seat, because the view over Honningsvåg was very beautiful. Outside it was cold—3 degrees. A fleece really isn’t much in that case. A kind woman was already waiting for me with a sign “van Laer.” That was perfect. Five minutes later I was standing in front of the hostel. The woman behind the desk was a bit less enthusiastic; she had to stay open especially for me. Oh well, we’ll just keep being naïve with a smile. Make the bed and lie down. Shit—it’s still light.
